Extra or Special Classes
Because all school children have a break from their state schools in the summer and winter, it is likely many of the children in your classes will be on holiday or doing other things. Obviously not all the students will be able to afford to go to overseas camps or special ?off site school programs,? and instead your director will operate an intensive teaching program at your school.

You will suddenly find your daily timetable is totally shattered when this happens. The Director may give you a timetable that is ?horrendous?. You may even be told you are going away with the children for 2-4 days and you are in charge of the program. Of course you will say what do I do? What is expected? Where is the program overview?

The obvious answer is always ?that is your job!? These special classes are part of your job and will be timetabled and paid for. It just may seem very heavy work for 1-2 weeks when you suddenly have long classroom hours. Your monthly contract hours should be maintained, but instead of 4 equal weeks of 30 hours you may find you have one weeks holiday and 3 weeks of 40 hours class time (a correct and legal total of 120 hours for the months session).

Sometimes you might get asked to take some classes on another site of for another employer. Please check the status of any classes at another location.

A few times a year you might be asked to take extra classes for concert practice, speech contest training etc. Please just accept that this is part of your work load unless your hours onsite are getting ?out of control? and you are not being paid correctly for it.
