Discipline Methods
The one thing that becomes obvious pretty quickly is that what you expected doesn?t always happen and what you never thought would happen does. Even the strongest most experienced teachers have struggled to gain positive classroom discipline in some of their classes.

One of the main problems is that many of the students are in your classes for only 1-3 hours maximum a week, hardly enough time to get the ?upper hand? and to get to know them, and for them to give you their trust.

Kindergarten students are in your classes for longer during the day, and also in the school for a full 2 yrs. You will find you develop a strong bond of friendship with many of your regular students. My best advice is to learn as much as possible about Korean cultural practices so you never offend a student and don?t act like a bossy dictator to them.

Many people mistake the word "discipline" as meaning to punish, when in fact it comes from the word "disciple" meaning to teach.

We have unfortunately heard of many teachers who have fallen asleep in class, set boring coloring activities so they could chill out and not be stressed, or placed a class of students in front of a video for 40 mins! Don?t think behaviours like these will go unnoticed?

Once again teachers in our program are provided with extensive help and advice from World English Service Ltd staff, in all areas of classroom management for the full 12 months of their contracts.
