Responsibilities of the Teacher/Employee
  1. All costs associated with the official notarising of their personal documents at a Korean embassy to enable them to obtain a visa and also all costs related to final passport processing undertaken at any Korean embassy in the world. This is the official stamping of a teachers passport with an E2 work visa permit (approx. US $50).
  2. All costs such as organizing personal medications, travel, insurance or the buying of personal supplies, publications and work related materials they may have chosen to take to Korea.
  3. To complete a questionnaire and written personal profile of themselves, that defines their place of birth and educational history, work history, character, personality and suitability for work in Korea.
  4. To have legitimately completed a bachelor degree or higher, which is needed to legally qualify for a Korean work visa.
  5. All postage or courier delivery costs for immigration documents and visa application purposes, to be sent to either the W.E.S New Zealand office, Korea, or the Korean Embassy in the teacher's country of residence.
  6. All costs related to personal domestic travel (bus, taxi, train, air etc.) undertaken in their own country of residence, prior to international travel to Korea.
  7. The responsibility of obtaining the cheapest airfare in economy class for international travel from their point of hire to Korea, and if requested to obtain and present 3 quotes to W.E.S or the employer for approval or comparison, before travel is commenced. To understand that if comparative or agreed costs for air travel costs are not obtained in advance, any reimbursement will be based at the cheapest standard costs of one way fare applicable on the day of travel,
  8. To understand that they are required to pay their own personal departures taxes, luggage cart fees, taxi or domestic transport transfer fees from the international airport they are departing from, and that these costs are not refundable by the employer.
  9. The responsibility to present themselves at all times in acceptable professional working attire (clothing) at their place of employment, and to accept advice from the employer on cultural or local standards for personal appearance and behaviours within the school and teaching environments.
  10. To accept guidance and training as offered by the school director as necessary to improve teaching performance.
  11. To read over all documentation, booklets, and website information provided by W.E.S and to then complete a sign off sheet that they have understood the employment process and general organization involved for their employment into Korea.
  12. To read all contract and employment documentation carefully and to be aware that as teachers on an E2 visa they will be working under the Korean immigration, labor and legal laws, on a 12 month sponsorship visa, and that this contract is legally binding in Korea, and is not applicable or equivalent to their own country's employment and civil laws and regulations.
  13. To personally undertake any research they feel appropriate and to check and ask any relevant questions related to their employment and living in Korea, prior to accepting a work contract.
  14. To be proactive with all communication to W.E.S and updating all final details (dates and time) or alterations in their departure and flight schedule, especially if they are in 'transit' or temporarily based in another foreign country and W.E.S may have difficulty contacting them.
  15. To understand that the visa sponsorship is for a 12-month period, and in the event of the teacher needing to urgently leave their sponsored place of employment, they will first contact W.E.S so that any legal responsibilities to cancel this visa sponsorship can be correctly mediated between the employee and employer.
IF YOU ARE DEEMED TO BE AN UNSUITABLE TEACHER DURING THE FIRST 3 MONTHS OF COMMENCING AN EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT IN KOREA ONLY, THE FOLLOWING MUST BE PAID BY THE TEACHER TO THE SCHOOL, OR TO WORLD ENGLISH SERVICE LTD TO ACCEPT ON BEHALF OF THE SCHOOL.
  1. Full responsibility to pay their employer a full money refund of air tickets and domestic Korean travel paid for them. NOTE: This cannot be financed or assumed to be paid by 'work performed' for the employer in lieu of a monetary refund, unless both parties have signed a written agreement for this.
  2. Repayment of any other special allowances received from the employer (such as a relocation allowances).
  3. Payment to W.E.S a amount equal to proven general administration costs occurred in the organization of their employment, and to partially recover costs incurred for W.E.S providing a free replacement teacher to the school, or alternatively W.E.S having to repay all recruitment fees received, to the school for that teacher's placement (as per contract with school). These costs include phone & fax charges, postage of documents and resource books, publications provided, and costs incurred for the visa issuance letter processing by Korean immigration. The maximum penalty payment for such costs is NZ $500 (approx. US $230)
